Frequently Asked Questions (Midlife Career Pivot Budget Gap Calculator)
Why doesn't this calculator include income from a new job or project?
It only works with numbers you already know: your essential costs, income you'd still have, and cash you have set aside. Any new income is left out so the result shows the gap on its own.
What counts as an essential monthly cost?
Usually housing, utilities, groceries, insurance, transport and minimum debt payments. Include anything you would still have to pay during the change.
How much runway should I have before changing careers?
There's no single right answer. It depends on your costs, how reliable your other income is and how long the change might take. Many people choose a number of months they feel comfortable with, and a qualified adviser can help you test it.
